Troopers Id Man Killed When His Motorcycle Collided With New Howell School Road Traffic Circle

Bear  – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal motorcycle crash which occurred last evening south of Bear, according to Director of Public Information, Sergeant Richard Bratz.

Bratz said the preliminary investigation has determined the incident occurred around 5:50 p.m. Saturday, April 14, 2018, as Thomas J. Miller, 49 of Newark, was operating a 2001 Harley Davidson Electra Glide motorcycle westbound on Howell School Road approaching the area of Robert C. Peoples Boulevard.

The operator failed to negotiate the traffic roundabout circle at this intersection and struck the raised concrete curb within the inner part of the circle, according to Bratz. The motorcycle fell down onto its right side and the operator was ejected from the motorcycle off the roadway onto a yard on Howell School Road.

Thomas J. Miller, who was not wearing a helmet, was transported to Christiana Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:22 p.m. last night.

This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit.

Howell School Road in the area of the crash was not closed due to the scene being primarily off the roadway.
