Authorities Update Old Baltimore Pike Motorcycle Crash In Newark

Just before 10:00 last night, New Castle County Paramedics and personnel from the Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company were dispatched to the intersection of Old Baltimore Pike and South Chapel Street, for a motorcycle crash, according to Paramedic Senior Corporal David McKinney, Jr.

McKinney said arriving County Paramedics found the motorcycle operator and sole occupant of the bike in the care of fire department Emergency Medical Technicians. The operator was separated from his motorcycle during the crash and was down in the roadway. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The patient, a 53-year-old male, was treated on scene for a head and shoulder injury, as well as body wide abrasions and lacerations.

The patient was transported to the Emergency Department at Christiana Hospital on board an ambulance from Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder with a New Castle County Paramedic accompanying. The patient was stable at the time of transport.

The Delaware State Police were on scene and are investigating the crash.

Breaking Report

At around the same time that the Delaware City incident occurred, crews from Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder responded to Old Baltimore Pike at Route 72 for reports of a motorcycle rider down in the roadway. It’s believed that the rider suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
