Police Id Suspect In Memorial Day Stabbing That Left Three Wounded

Wilmington Police have identified Vernell Watts, 52, of Wilmington as the suspect in Monday’s stabbing incident that injured four.

Watts has been charged with the following offenses:

– ASSAULT 1ST DEGREE;
– ASSAULT 1ST DEGREE;
– ASSAULT 2ND DEGREE;
– POSSESSION OF A DEADLY WEAPON DURING THE
COMMISSION OF A FELONY;
– POSSESS A DEADLY WEAPON BY PERSON PROHIBITED,
PRIOR CONVICTION;

He was transferred to HOWARD YOUNG CORRECTIONAL INSTITUTE after failing to post $66,000 CASH BAIL.

Breaking Report

This morning, at approximately 4:55 am, Wilmington Police were summoned to an apartment located in the 800 block of W. 8th Street for reports of stabbing incident, according to police.

Officials said upon arrival, officers located three victims, a 26-year old male who was suffering from a laceration to his neck and is listed in stable condition, a 49-year-old female who was suffering from a laceration to her arm and torso area and is listed in stable condition, and a 24-year old female who was suffering a laceration to her arm and is also in stable condition.

Police said the 52-year-old male suspect was present when officers arrived. He sustained a laceration his torso and is listed in stable condition.

The three victims were treated on scene by New Castle County paramedics before being transported to Christiana Hospital via ambulance.

The suspect was also treated on scene by New Castle County paramedics and transported to the Wilmington Hospital via ambulance, where he remains in police custody.
