Reports: Driver Flees Into Woods After Crashing Truck In Newark, One Apprehended

Newark – Just after 3:00 this afternoon, Sunday, May 13, 2018, Police officers with the Newark Police Department responded to intersection of Route 896 (South College Ave.) and Welsh Tract Road for reports of a vehicle off the roadway.

Early reports indicate that the driver of the vehicle fled into the woods after the crash.

Responding officers quickly set up a perimeter and began a search for the driver. Officers took one male into custody near the Welsh Tract Baptist Church Cemetery. It’s unclear if this was the driver of the vehicle.

He was later transported to the Newark Police Headquarters. It’s unclear if he will face any charges.

No injuries were reported.
