Troopers Update Train Crash That Killed One In Delmar This Morning

Delmar – Delaware State Police are on scene of a fatal crash involving a vehicle and a train that occurred this morning, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred at approximately 8:58 a.m., Friday, May 4, 2018, on Bacons Road between Powell Farm Lane and Country Walk. A passenger vehicle was traveling eastbound on Bacons Road when a train was traveling southbound on the railroad tracks. The vehicle had crossed onto the railroad tracks and was subsequently struck by the train. The driver of the passenger car was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has been notified of the crash and officials from the Delmarva Central Railroad are on scene. Bacons Road between Powell Farm Lane and Country Walk still remains closed at this time.

Motorists can expect delays in the area and are advised to seek alternate routes of travel.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact Master Corporal K. Argo of the Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit at 302-644-5020.
