Reports: At Least 12 Newark Teens Injured In Rollover Crash Near Houston

A group of young missionaries from Newark are recovering from injuries sustained in a rollover crash that occurred yesterday near Houston, Texas.

According to authorities, at least 12 people from Newark’s City Light Vineyard Church were injured when their van was involved in a rollover crash at the intersection of Century Blvd & Emmett F Lowry Expressway in Texas City, Texas, just south of Houston.

The injured, ranging in ages from 14 to 18-years-old, were taken to Houston area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to early reports.

The group, who holds Sunday services at Newark Charter High School, is in the Houston area helping with the Hurricane Harvey relief.
One member of the group is expected to undergo surgery for his injuries suffered in the accident, according the churches Facebook page.

“Please keep the Galveston mission team in your prayers going forward. There was a major car accident with one of the group vans and several are injured. ————- will undergo surgery of his knee tonight and possibly again tomorrow morning.

Please pray for traveling mercies as both Gary and Sarah are flying down first thing tomorrow morning to be with him. ————– will remain in the hospital overnight for observation. ————- was also injured and has endured trauma to his shoulder and hand.

It is unknown at this time if he will be kept in the hospital overnight. The van was hit when someone ran a red light and T-boned the van, causing it to turn over several times. All other team members have been evaluated and will be released from the hospital and sent back to lodging facility.

This was a very Traumatic event for the entire team and we would appreciate you keeping them in your prayers.”

Gofundme page has been setup to help with expenese.

“As many of you have heard, our teens were on a mission trip down in the Houston area and one of the vans carrying teens was t-boned and flipped 2 times.

While most of the teens are ok physically, ————— needed surgery to repair his knee which was cut down to the bone. His parents, Gary and Sarah, flew down to Houston to be with him this morning. We are raising money to help cover the cost of their flight and any other expenses that arise from this accident. Any donation is greatly appreciated!”

We’re working to gather more information regarding the incident.
