Breaking Report

New Castle –  Just after 10:40 last evening, Saturday, June 9, 2018, rescue crews from the Minquadale and Five Points Fire Companies, along with Delaware State Police and New Castle County Paramedics responded to the area of I-95 SB at the Route 141 exit for a vehicle accident involving a motorcycle.

As crews responded to the scene they learned that Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) Police had located a motorcycle in the roadway, with the rider missing.  Upon arrival, first responding crews confirmed that the rider was not with the bike and initiated a search. As they searched the area, crews located the rider in the median near  I-295 SB at the Route 141 exit.

Arriving medics immediately alerted dispatch that the rider would be a trauma code patient.

The rider was quickly transported to Christiana Hospital with a trauma alert by Minquadale ambulance (A-22), accompanied by several New Castle County Paramedics. Officials have not released the riders condition at this time.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that the crash occurred as a result of a police chase. It’s unclear if the motorcycle was fleeing police or if it was struck by a fleeing vehicle. It’s also unclear which agency was involved in the chase.

Early reports indicate that the bike may have slid up to a quarter of a mile before coming to rest on the right shoulder of I-95 SB.

Due to the serious nature of the riders injuries, I-495 SB was closed at the flyover ramp for Route 141 while police investigated the accident. I-95 SB was closed temporarily but reopened after a few minutes.
