(Newark, DE 19702) Yesterday (July 18) New Castle County Police Patrol Officers, Paramedics and members of the Christiana Fire Company were dispatched to the unit block of Defoe Circle for a medical emergency, according to police.

Officials said when the officers arrived at the residence they observed members from the Christiana Fire Company treating 27-year-old Thomas Epperson. When New Castle County Paramedics arrived, Epperson was escorted to an awaiting gurney. When he sat down, he grabbed the hand of a Christiana Fire Company EMT and began to assault her, according to police.

After a brief struggle, Epperson was then taken into custody by county police officers and transported to an area hospital for treatment. The injured member of the Christiana Fire Company was also transported to a local hospital and was later treated and released.

Following Epperson’s release, he was taken to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged with one count of felony Assault and one count of felony Resisting Arrest. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $3000 secured bail.
