File

North East, Md. – At 5:48 this morning, Saturday, July 28, 2018, rescue crews from Cecil County, along with Trooper 1 (Maryland State Police Aviation) responded to Turkey Point Lighthouse for reports that a person had fallen off of the cliff.

Early reports indicate that a man fell down the embankment and suffered a broken ankle. It’s not clear how far the man fell. Some areas of the cliff near the lighthouse rise 100 feet above the water.

Crews initially having a difficult time locating the patient, asked Trooper 1 to use their infrared camera to locate the patient.  Within minutes Trooper 1 was able to locate the patient and was able to direct ground and boat crews to the man.

Just before 7:00 the patient was freed from the side of the cliff and brought aboard an awaiting rescue boat. The patient was transported to Rogue’s Harbor Marina where he was transferred to an ambulance for transport to Union Hospital in Elkton..
