Delaware State Police Investigating Rash Of Golf Cart Thefts From Campgrounds

The Delaware State Police (DSP) has confirmed that they are investigating a recent rash of golf cart thefts from campgrounds across Sussex County.

Earlier this week, First State Update contacted DSP after receiving reports that several golf carts had been stolen from the Lewes and Georgetown areas.

Delaware State Police Public Information Officer, Melissa Jaffe, said there have been some recent thefts of golf carts from a wide geographic location. Jaffe didn’t say if the thefts are limited to campgrounds or the Lewes and Georgetown areas.

Officials said that almost all of the golf carts taken are battery powered. Most were outside and not secured in a shed or garage, added Jaffe.

Local residents told First State Update that they believe the thieves are coming in at night and pushing the golf carts to an awaiting truck nearby.

They said that they’re hearing that up to six carts have been taken but they couldn’t be sure if more were taken. Jaffe did not release the number of cart thefts DSP is investigating.
