Police Say Man Demanded Cash, Threatened To Kill Victim Using Extortion Note

Milford – On July 30, 2018, at 8:54 in the morning, the Milford Police Department Criminal Investigations Division was notified of an extortion investigation, according to Detective Timothy Maloney.

Maloney said the preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown subject left a note on the victim’s vehicle demanding an undisclosed amount of cash or the subject would kill the victim.

Detectives determined that the threat was credible, according to Maloney. Through further investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspect as Nikolaih Rivera, 26 of Houston, Delaware.

On August 8, 2018, Detectives took Rivera into custody without incident. Rivera was charged with Extortion, Theft Under $1500, and Criminal Mischief Under $1000.

He had a presentment through Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was committed to the Department of Corrections in default of $9250.00 cash secured bail and was issued a no-contact order with the victim in the case.

Rivera was ordered to appear at a later date in Kent County Court of Common Pleas for a preliminary hearing.
