Smyrna – At approximately 2:20 yesterday afternoon, Sunday, August 12, 2018, rescue crews from the Smyrna Citizens Hose Company, along with the Leipsic Volunteer Fire Company, Cheswold Volunteer Fire Company, Kent Count Medics, Delaware State Police, Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police Aviation New Castle) and Trooper 2 (Delaware State Police Aviation Sussex) responded to the 800 block of Lighthouse Road in Smyrna for a motorcycle crash with injuries.

Upon arrival, crews reported that two riders were seriously injured and that at least one helicopter would be utilized. While en route  Trooper 4 was advised to land in the field next to Boondocks Resturant to make access to the scene.
Within a few minutes, Trooper 4 touched down near the accident and the first patient was transferred to the helicopter for transport.

As Trooper 4 was preparing to lift off, Command alerted Trooper 2 that they would be utilized to transport the second patient. Trooper 2 was advised to land in the same area were Trooper 4 had landed previously.

Trooper 4 transported their patient to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center with serious injuries.
It is believed that Trooper 2 also transported their patient to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center. That patient was suffering from serious injuries as well.

Residents report that the road was closed for several hours as Troopers investigated the scene.
