Newark Community Days Set For This Sunday 11 To 4:00

Newark – Residents and visitors will have plenty to see, try and taste at the 47th annual Community Day event being held this Sunday, Sunday, September 16, 2018, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the University of Delaware Green. More than 280 vendors have registered to participate.

“Community Day is such a wonderful tradition in the City of Newark – and something so many residents look forward to every year,” said city manager Carol Houck. “We are grateful to the many community partners who support the event and to the staff and volunteers who ensure it’s a continued success.”

The event is free to attend and features entertainment and fun for the whole family. Local businesses and non-profit organizations will gather on the Green to highlight their organization and engage the public with information about their mission, activities, volunteer opportunities, and more. Fine artists, crafters, and retail businesses will be selling their creations and wares throughout the day. As always, food vendors will offer a wide variety of food options for festival goers. The children’s area will feature games and activities at a pint-sized price in addition to our very popular scarecrow making.

This year’s entertainment schedule features numerous demonstrations and local musicians on three different stages and will wrap up with the country music group Parmalee, which will perform in front of Memorial Hall at 3:30 p.m.

Delaware Avenue, between South College Avenue and Academy Street, will be closed from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. for the event. For weather-related cancellation information, please call the Leisure Time Hotline at (302) 366-7147.  (Rain date: September 23)
