Police: Newark Man Admits To Shooting Himself, Two Others Arrested

Wilmington Police have identified the Newark man who accidentally shot himself in the 1300 block of Lancaster Avenue on Thursday. Police say Chaz Peete, 22, admitted to accidentally shooting himself during an interview with detectives.

As they investigated, detectives discovered that Kayla Robinson, 24, of New Castle and Jamil Bailey, 24, of Wilmington, removed evidence from the scene, according to police.

Both Robinson and Baily were charged with Felony Tampering With Physical Evidence. Charges against Peete are pending.

Robinson was later released on $2000 unsecured bail. Officials did not release information regarding Baily’s arraignment or status.

Wilmington – Today, at approximately 3:03 pm, Wilmington Police responded to the 1300 block of Lancaster Avenue in reference to a subject who was reportedly shot, according to police.

Officials said upon the officer’s arrival, they located a 32-year-old Newark man who was suffering from a gunshot wound.

Through investigative means, it has been determined that the man shot himself. Reports from the scene indicate that he suffered a wound to the leg.

He is currently listed in stable condition.

Wilmington – Rescue crews are responding to reports of a shooting on Lancaster Avenue in Wilmington.

Update: Crews are transporting the patient to the Trauma Center with a police escort.

Developing

This is the second shooting of the day. At approximately 9:12, this morning police responded to a report of a shooting in the 600 block of West 8th Street for reports that two people had been shot. Upon arrival, crews reported that one patient was shot in the leg and the other patient was suffering from an ankle injury, not a gunshot wound.

The male shooting victim was treated at the scene and transported to the Wilmington Hospital.

That victim is currently listed in stable condition.
