Expect Delays At Newark Elementary School Drop-Off On Friday

Newark – On Monday evening, City of Newark workers responded to John R Downes Elementary for reports of water bubbling up from the parking lot.

Although crews found the leak they did not make repairs at that time. On Firday morning crews will begin working to repair the water main break according to school officials.

Tomorrow morning the school will move it’s normal dropoff area out to the intersection of Webb Road and Rahway Drive. Parents will not be able to drop their children off at the curb in front of the school, according to a letter sent to parents this afternoon.

“Attention: Parents and Guardians:
Important Notice:
Car Rider Arrival and Pick up Changes for Friday, 11/16/18
Changes are to accommodate the repair work on the water main break in the car rider circle parking lot beginning Friday morning.

Please understand that student arrival and dismissal will take longer than normal due to the temporary location adjustments and bus riders being dismissed before car riders

Arrival: Parents will drop students off in front of the cones at Webb Rd. with the crossing guard and school staff by the entrance to the car rider circle parking lot.

Dismissal: Parents picking students up will enter the main parking lot from the school’s right entrance, lining up along the curb in front of the school waiting for their student(s) to come to the cars.

Parents:
If you walk up to the school to meet your student(s) by the gym doors this procedure remains the same.
Buses will attempt to leave the school up to ten minutes earlier so plan to be at the bus stop early.

Thank you for your understanding of this temporary procedural change,
Downes Office Staff”

It’s probably a good idea to give yourself a few extra minutes in the morning.
