Police: Newark Man Hospitalized After Being Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver

On November 26, 2018, at 9:19, Newark Police (NPD) were dispatched to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Library Avenue (SR 72) and Ogletown Road (SR 273).

NPD Spokesman Lt Andrew Rubin said Officers arrived to find a male pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was treated at the scene by Aetna Hose, Hook, and Ladder Company of Newark and New Castle County paramedics. The victim, a male in his 40’s, of Newark, was transported to an area hospital where he was admitted in serious condition.

During the investigation, officers learned that the pedestrian was struck while crossing the southbound lanes of Library Avenue. Officials are investigating whether or not the pedestrian was crossing in a marked crosswalk.

After striking the pedestrian, the striking vehicle fled southbound on Library Avenue, said Rubin. The vehicle was described as a red pick-up truck, possibly a Ford. The vehicle may have damage on the front right side of the vehicle.
