Happening Now: Several Injured In Newark Crash, At Least One Trapped

Newark – Rescue crews from Aetna, Hose, Hook, and Ladder, along with crews from New Castle County Paramedics and Trooper 4 have responded to South College Avenue at Welsh Tract Road for a crash with entrapment.

Newark Police have confirmed that at least one person is trapped and several others are injured.

Upon arrival, crews have declared a Level 1 Mass Casualty Incident. At least five ambulances are en route to the scene.

Update: The trapped patient has been extricated and is being loaded into Trooper 4 for transport to the Trauma Center at Christiana Hospital in Stanton.

Newark Police have issued the following statement:
There is a multi-vehicle crash with injuries on South College Avenue at Welsh Tract Road. Southbound South College Avenue is closed at West Chestnut Hill Road. Traffic on Welsh Tract Road cannot enter the intersection with South College Avenue. The roadway is expected to be closed for an extended period for investigation and clean-up.
