Troopers: Man Charged With Three Knifepoint Robberies

Wilmington – The Delaware State Police have arrested James Wright, 52, of Wilmington in connection with a string of knifepoint robberies that had taken place recently at Wilmington area motels, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said during the month of December, Troopers investigated robberies at three north Wilmington motels, in which the same black male suspect would approach a clerk at the front desk while brandishing a knife and then demand money.

The robberies took place at the following locations:

Day One Motel, 5029 Governor Printz Blvd. (12/06/18 at 3:10 a.m.)
Knights Inn, 7811 Governor Printz Blvd. (12/10/18 at 11:15 p.m.)
Days Inn, 5209 Concord Pike (12/11/18 at 7:00 p.m.)

Through a variety of investigative leads and measures Wright was developed as a suspect and on Thursday, December 13 he was located in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Walgreens on Philadelphia Pike in Holly Oak, where he was taken into custody without incident. Through further investigation, Wright was able to be linked to all three robberies, said Austin.

Wright was charged with 3 counts each of Robbery 1st Degree and Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Felony. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 and then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $276,000.00 cash bail.
