Video: Scottfield Neighborhood House Fire Injures Newark Man

A Newark man is recovering in a hospital after a fire ripped through his Scottfield home on Saturday.

At around 4:15 this afternoon firefighters from Aetna, Hose, Hook, and Ladder, along with crews from across New Castle County responded to the 200 block of Oakfield Road, Scottfield, for a house fire.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they reported heavy smoke showing from the home.

The man escaped from the home on his own before firefighters arrived. Crews found him found outside and rushed him to Christiana Hospital by ambulance. New Castle County Paramedics were also onboard the ambulance.

The fire damage to the home was significant and made the home uninhabitable, displacing the injured man and his wife.

Fire Marshals were on scene investigating, however, we do not expect an update from them tonight regarding this fire. Shortly after the fire was placed under control another fire in Middletown involving exploding ammunition broke out. The same fire investigators were called to that scene.
