16-Year-Old Shot While Riding Dirt Bike Near Newport

The Delaware State Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred this afternoon, according to Director of Public Information, Sergeant Richard Bratz.

Bratz said the preliminary investigation has determined incident was reported on Sunday, February 3, 2019, at approximately 2:11 p.m., when troopers responded to a local area hospital for a report of a victim being shot. Upon arrival, troopers made contact with a 16-year-old male of New Castle. The victim advised that he was on a dirt bike motorcycle traveling westbound on Delaware 4 (Maryland Avenue) near Champlain Avenue and was shot by an unknown suspect traveling on Maryland Avenue in the same direction. The victim was taken to the hospital with an injury to his lower torso and is listed in stable condition.
