Early Morning House Fire In Claymont Displaces Two

Claymont – At 12:39 this morning, Tuesday, February 5, 2019, firefighters from the Claymont Fire Company, along with crews from the Talleyville, Minquas, Brandywine Hundred, and Delaware County Pennsylvania Fire Companies responded to the 3600 block of Topaz Drive for reports of a house fire.

While en route crews learned that an off-duty Claymont firefighter was on scene reporting fire from the rear of the home and all occupants were out.

Upon arrival, Command reported heavy fire showing from the home and ordered an offensive attack on the fire. As crews made their way into the home, reports of a hole in the floor came across the radio.

Shortly after that report, crews reported that the home was under construction. Upon hearing the reports Command ordered an evacuation of the structure. Firefighters were then ordered to fight the fire from a defensive posture.

At 1:47 am, Command placed the incident under control.

Two adults, displaced by the fire, were assisted by Red Cross.

New Castle County Paramedics and State of Delaware Fire Marshals also responded to the scene.
