A witness at the scene said that shortly before the crash the vehicle almost struck a sedan on Route 202. The incident concerned the witness enough that he called 911. As the witness was on the phone with the dispatcher the vehicle veered left almost striking a pickup driven by an off-duty Wilmington Police Officer, according to the witness.

The witness said as the vehicle entered I-95 it began driving erratically. “The vehicle rocked left to right real fast like he was turning the wheel left and right really fast then finally he went right head-on into the guardrail…”, said the witness.  After striking the guardrail it spun out sending debris across the roadway. “his passenger wheel flew off one way and his axel flew across the road.”
