Babysitter Arrested For Leaving Infant In Vehicle While Shopping

On April 16, 2019, Georgetown Police Officers were dispatched to the Walmart parking lot for reports of a small child in a motor vehicle, unattended, according to police.

Officers arrived and located a small female infant who was seated in the back seat of a Honda Pilot in the parking lot. The officers made access to the child through an unlocked door and determined that she was in good health.

Police said the infant was alone in the vehicle for at least fifteen minutes before the driver was contacted. The driver, identified as Ofelia Velasquez Berduo, 49, of Milton, was taken into custody at the scene.

Officers learned that the driver of the vehicle was babysitting the infant. The mother of the infant was contacted, and she was returned to her custody, police said.

Ofelia Velasquez Berduo was charged with endangering the welfare of a child. She was arraigned and released on her own recognizance.
