Police: Wilmington Officers Arrest Intoxicated Middletown Man, Gun, Ski Mask Found

Wilmington Police have arrested and charged an intoxicated 26-year-old Middletown man on gun charges, officials said Tuesday.

Police said on March 30 at approximately 9:31 p.m., police responded to a parking lot in the 1800 block of Pennsylvania Avenue for a report of a disorderly subject. Upon arrival, officers located 26-year-old Middletown man Xavier Nelson, who appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Nelson refused to comply with instructions from the officers. When police advised him that he was being placed under arrest, Nelson told police he had a firearm in his possession, according to police. Officers recovered a loaded .45-caliber handgun and took him into custody without incident. Nelson was found to be in possession of a total of 32 rounds of ammunition, a 12-inch knife and a ski mask, said police.

He was charged with Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, Possession of a Firearm While Under the Influence, and Criminal Trespassing (Third Degree).

Nelson was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $10,501 secured bail
