Delaware State Police have arrested Shaquille G. Campbell, 22 of New Castle, and charged him in connection with a series of robberies in New Castle over the past two weeks, according to Director of Public Information Sergeant Richard D. Bratz.

Bratz said in each of the robberies, a disguised black male subject entered the businesses implied he had a weapon and demanded cash from the clerks. The suspect then fled the area undetected.

On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, Detectives, through investigative measures and canvass of the areas developed Shaquille Campbell as a suspect. Campbell was arrested in a similar robbery spree in 2017 and is currently on probation, according to Bratz.

On Monday, June 10, 2019, troopers investigated a suspicious person report at the Shell Gas Station, located at 299 Christiana Road and that was later determined to be an attempted robbery., Bratz said

During the investigation, the suspect was wearing clothing consistent with the clothes worn during the robberies. On Monday, June 9, 2019, Campbell was observed operating a 2002 Toyota Avalon suspiciously circling the Community Plaza Shopping Center located at 287 Christiana Road in New Castle. A short time later, detectives observed Campbell fleeing from the area of the Shell station, at 299 Christiana Road and attempted to flee southbound on Appleby Road. Troopers initiated a pursuit on Appleby Road towards U.S. 40. After a short pursuit, Campbell’s vehicle stopped in the median of U.S. 40 at Appleby Road. After several verbal commands from troopers, the suspect was taken into custody. Detectives executed search warrants on the Toyota Avalon and a residence on Freedom Trail where they located and recovered additional evidence linking Campbell to this robbery crime spree, according to Bratz.
