Troopers: Armed Gunman Ordered Six-Year-Old Child Out Of Car During Robbery

Magnolia- The Delaware State Police have arrested a Dover man in connection with a robbery that occurred earlier this month, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on June 3, 2019, at approximately 11:38 a.m., when Troopers responded to the 200 block of E. Cherry Drive, Magnolia, for a report of a robbery.

Upon arrival, contact was made with three victims, a 44-year-old male, a 36-year-old male, and a six-year-old child. The 44-year-old victim advised Troopers that he was sitting inside of his girlfriend’s vehicle and that the 36-year-old male victim was standing outside of the vehicle. The six-year-old child was seated inside of the vehicle.

The victims were approached by a male subject who removed a handgun from a bag that he was carrying and demanded that the child be removed from the vehicle, said Jaffe. The victims along with the child were able to flee from the vehicle on foot unharmed. When the victims returned to the vehicle, it was discovered that an undisclosed amount of money and a cell phone were taken from the vehicle, said Jaffe.

Through investigative measures, Troopers were able to identify the suspect as 39-year-old Lamar T. Brooks, according to Jaffe.

On June 27, 2019 members of the Kent County Governor’s Task Force (GTF) and the First State Fugitive Task Force took Brooks into custody in the Dover area without incident. Brooks was transported back to Troop 3 where he was charged with the following:

Robbery First Degree
Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
Aggravated Menacing (2 counts)

Brooks was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $141,000.00 secured bond.
