Troopers Say Dollar Tree Employee Faked Robbery To Cover Up Theft

New Castle – The Delaware State Police have arrested 28-year-old Irvin I. Parker of Bear, for falsely reporting an incident, after it was determined that he staged a robbery at a New Castle area business in which he was the alleged victim, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the staged robbery was reported at approximately 10:15 p.m., Thursday, May 16, 2019, at the Dollar Tree located at 1230 Beaverbrook Plaza in New Castle, where Parker was an employee. Parker, who was the reporting person and victim for the incident, gave a statement to the responding Troopers that an unknown suspect entered the business just after closing and held him at gunpoint while demanding cash. Parker turned over the money to the suspect who then fled, according to Austin.

Further investigation by Troop 2 Robbery Unit detectives discovered inconsistencies with Parker’s story and were able to determine that he conspired with the alleged suspect to stage the robbery, in an attempt to cover up an internal theft that he was responsible for, said Austin.

Parker was charged with Falsely Reporting an Incident, Theft Greater than $1500.00 and Conspiracy 2nd Degree. He was arraigned and then released pending a future court appearance.

The investigation is ongoing as Parker’s co-conspirator has yet to be identified. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective C. Hevelow of the Troop 2 Robbery Unit by calling 302-365-8471.
