Troopers Update Fatal Cecil County Motorcycle Accident

Port Deposit, Md. – On Saturday, June 1, 2019, shortly after 7:00 PM Maryland State Troopers from North East Barrack responded to Susquehanna River Road, north of Canal Road for a single vehicle crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed the operator of a 2002 Harley Davidson motorcycle, John Smith, 26-year-old  of Red Lion Pennsylvania, attempted to pass an unloaded school bus and lost control.

The Harley traveled off the roadway, where Smith and his passenger, a 24-year-old Fawn Grove Pennsylvania woman, were thrown from the motorcycle.

Smith was transported to Harford Memorial Hospital by Cecil County Emergency Services medics, however, he succumbed to his injuries.

His passenger was transported to Christiana Hospital in Delaware via Delaware State Police medevac where she is currently being treated for her injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours with the assistance of the State Highway Administration. A Maryland State Police crash reconstructionist is investigating this collision.

Breaking Report

Port Deposit, Md. – Cecil County rescue crews have responded to the 1200 block of Susquehanna River Rd in Port Deposit, MD for reports of a crash involving two motorcycles.

Trooper 6 Maryland State Police Aviation and Trooper 4 Delaware State Police Aviation are both en route to the scene.

Early indications are that two patients are seriously injured.

Update: Trooper 4 has arrived on scene.

Update: Trooper 4 is en route to the trauma center at Christiana Hosptial with a female patient that is in very serious condition. Hospital crews are preparing Trauma Room E for the patient’s arrival.

Update; Trooper 4 has landed at the Trauma Center at 8:05 PM.
