Authorities Release Details Surrounding Christina River Search

Shortly after 9:20AM Wilmington Firefighters on the A- platoon were dispatched to the South Walnut Street Bridge for a person who apparently jumped into the Christina River, according to Battalion Chief John M. Looney.

Looney said first arriving fire department personnel spoke to the bridge operators who stated witnessing a male jump into the Christina River and not resurface.

Upon the arrival of the Incident Commander, Battalion Chief Dennis Kirlin who immediately requested New Castle County Dive Team and other resources to start search operations.

WFD Marine unit arrived and quickly initiated search operations with the support from the land-based suppression companies. The NCC Dive team conducted a coordinated search of the last known area for several hours with negative findings. Incident Commander, Battalion Chief Dennis Kirlin terminated the search operations at approximately 1:50PM.

Additional information regarding the incident will be released if it becomes available.

The following units responded: Engine 1, Squad 4, Skyboom 2, Ladder 2, Battalion-1, Battalion-2, Battalion-12, F-1, St. Francis EMS, New Castle County Medics, WPD, New Castle County Dive Team and DSP Aviation Unit.
