Police: Teacher Charged With Sexually Abusing Children Released On Unsecured Bond

Harrington- On July 12, 2019, the Harrington Police Department arrested Richard C. Ford, 63, of Felton for Unlawful Sexual Contact and related charges, according to authorities.

Officials said during the month of January, officers were contacted by a parent who alleged that her daughter had been inappropriately touched by a teacher, Ford, at WT Chipman Middle School during a fitness class.

An investigation was conducted by the Harrington Police Department with the assistance of the Child Advocacy Center and the Department of Justice, which led investigators discovering two additional victims who were also students in Ford’s class, police said. The victims were 11 and 12 years old.

On July 12th, Ford turned himself into the Harrington Police Department and was processed. He was charged with two counts of Unlawful Sexual Contact where Victim is under 13, two counts of Sexual Abuse of a Child by Person of Trust 2nd Degree, and one count of Offensive Touching.

He was arraigned by Video Phone at Justice of the Peace Court 2 in Lewes and issued a $10,100 unsecured bond The judge also ordered Ford to have no contact with the victims.
