Newark Police Charge Man With PWIT Deliver Heroin, Crack, Released

Just before midnight on August 16th, a Newark Police Officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on South College Avenue, according to Lt. Andrew Rubin.

Rubin said the officer smelled the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and conducted a search of the vehicle.

A search of the vehicle revealed quantities of heroin and crack cocaine that were packaged for sale, according to Rubin.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Jamar Merritt, 18, of Elkton, Maryland. Merritt was taken into custody and charged with Possession with Intent to(PWIT) Deliver Heroin, Possession with Intent to Deliver crack cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

He appeared before Justice of the Peace Court #11 in New Castle and was released on his own recognizance.
