Officials: One Reported Dead After Plane Crash Near Stanton

Newark – Just before 9:00 this morning Delaware State Troopers were dispatched to the area of I-95 SB and Chrurchmans Road for reports of an aircraft emergency.

Shortly after the Troopers were notified, rescue crews from across New Castle County were alerted to the accident.

While en route crews learned that a caller was reporting that a small aircraft had crashed into the trees near Churcnmans Marsh.

As crews began their search for the downed plane Newport Command learned that the New Castle County Airport Tower was reporting that they had lost contact with a small aircraft that took off from runway 32.

Crews searching the area came across a witness that told them he saw the plane go down behind Del Tech Community College.

After several minutes of searching the heavily wooded area crews found the aircraft overturned and down an embankment near the White Clay Creek Medical Center just off Stanton Christiana Road.

The Tower reportedly told dispatchers that aircraft requested to land shortly after takeoff but did not declare an emergency at that time.

Crews that made access to the crash site reported that one person in the plane had succumbed to injuries suffered in the crash.

Radio traffic indicates that there may have been an additional person on the plane, however, that has not been confirmed at this point.
