21-Year-Old Gunned Down In City Park, Active Shooter Rumors Unfounded

Wilmington – At around 6:53 Monday evening, reports of a shooting lit up emergency radios across New Castle County. As emergency personal responded to the scene, social media reports of an active shooter began to make the rounds.

As the first Wilmington Police officers arrived at Cool Spring Park, near the intersection of N Van Buren Street and Delaware Avenue, they reported that they found a 21-year-old man deceased at the scene. Arriving medics confirmed that the subject had been shot and was deceased.

A spokesman with the Wilmington Police Department confirmed that the scene was secured shortly after their arrival  and that there was no active shooter.
