7 Years In Prison For Man Who Shot And Killed 16-Year-Old Girl In Front Of Her Home

The 2017 fatal shooting of a teenage girl has led to a prison sentence for her killer.

In April 2017, Shyheim Warren, 25, of Wilmington shot 16-year-old Tyneisha Cephas while she was trying to break up a large fight in front of her home on the 900 block of North Kirkwood Street in Wilmington.

Warren pleaded guilty to Manslaughter and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony in July.

A Superior Court judge sentenced Warren to 7 years in prison followed by 1 year of probation. Deputy Attorneys General John Downs and Timothy Maguire secured the sentence.

Officials with the Wilmington Police Department have announced that a man wanted in connection with last years murder of a 16-year-old girl is in custody.

On Tuesday, December 11, Shyheim Warren, 24, of Wilmington, surrendered to Wilmington Police for the murder of Tynesia Cephas, which occurred in the 900 block of Kirkwood Street on April 26, 2017, according to police.

Authorities said Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division have worked diligently for 17 months to find her killer.

Through investigative measures, detectives developed Warren as a suspect in the case and he was indicted on September 11, 2018.

On December 7, 2018, after exhausting every lead in trying to find Warren, detectives asked the public for help with locating Warren.

On Tuesday, December 11, at approximately 7:00 pm, Shyheim Warren turned himself in to detectives.

Warren has been charged with Murder 2nd Degree, Two Counts: Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Reckless Endangering 1st Degree.

He was arraigned and was committed to Howard Young Correctional Institute on a $650,000 cash-only bail.

Wilmington – On Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at approximately 9:42 p.m., Wilmington Police Officer’s responded to the 900 block of Kirkwood Street in reference to a Shot Spotter notification of gunfire in the area.

As officers were arriving, they were directed to a residence in the 900 block of Kirkwood Street where a 16-year-old female victim,  identified as Tynesia Cephas, was located. The victim was suffering from gunshot wounds to her torso and arm areas.

The victim was treated on scene by New Castle County Paramedics and transported to the Christiana Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
