South of Dewey Beach– The Delaware State Police is conducting a death investigation related to a kiteboarding accident that occurred earlier this afternoon.

On October 4, 2019, at approximately 12:43 p.m., Troopers responded to the Towers Bay area of the Delaware Seashore State Park in reference to a kiteboarder. It was learned that at approximately 11:00 a.m., a 48-year-old male met with his father at the Towers Bay area of the Delaware Seashore State Park (bayside off Coastal Highway south of Dewey Beach), and was practicing kiteboarding by using only the harness and kite (no board) while standing in the water. Due to heavy winds, the victim was pulled farther and farther out into deeper water. The father called 911 and Delaware Fish & Wildlife Natural Resource Police initiated a search of the area.

At approximately 1:37 p.m., the male victim of Bear, DE, was located by the Delaware Fish & Wildlife Natural Resource Police deceased along the shore south of the original location. The victim’s name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin. The Delaware Division of Forensic Science was contacted to remove the victim and to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
