One Dead After Car, Fuel Truck Collide Sunday

Bridgeville- The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing to investigate a fatal crash involving a fuel truck that occurred earlier today. according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on November 3, 2019, at approximately 10:53 a.m., when a 2004 Toyota Corolla was traveling southbound on Sussex Highway in the left lane approaching the intersection of Redden Road.

A 1989 White Manufacturing 6 wheel fuel truck carrying diesel fuel was traveling westbound on Redden Road crossing over both the northbound and southbound lanes of Sussex Highway.

The Corolla and truck entered the intersection simultaneously, causing the left front of the Corolla to strike the right front of the truck in the left southbound lane. After the impact, the fuel truck overturned landing upside-down resulting in the spillage of a substantial amount of diesel fuel.

The operator of the Corolla, a 49-year-old male from Bridgeville, DE was properly restrained and pronounced deceased at the scene. His name is being withheld at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The operator of the fuel truck, a 64-year-old male of Milton, DE was transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Sussex Highway southbound in the area of Redden Road was closed completely for 4 hours. One southbound lane was re-opened at 2:45 p.m. and DNREC remains on scene in reference to continued clean-up.

Bridgeville- The Delaware State Police are currently on scene of a serious motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 10:54 a.m., on southbound Sussex Highway (Rt. 13) in the area of Redden Road, Bridgeville, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said as a result of the crash and ongoing investigation, southbound Rt. 13 in the area of Redden Road is down to one lane. Motorists are advised to use caution and seek alternate routes of travel.

Indications from the scene are that a tanker truck has overturned and that two patients are seriously injured.

The investigation is in the early stages with further details being released as they become available.
