Tractor-Trailer Crash Causes Traffic Nightmare Monday

New Castle – Just after 2:45 on Monday afternoon, rescue crews from the Minquadale, Minquas, Hollaway Terrace,  and Christiana Fire Companies were dispatched to an accident at I-95 SB at I-495 SB for reports of an injury accident involving multiple vehicles.

Arriving crews found four vehicles involved in the accident with a tractor-trailer leaking diesel fuel. As a result, Belvedere Fire Company’s HAZMAT 30 and DNREC’s Emergency Response Team responded to the scene.

Crews worked throughout the afternoon to clean up approximately 70 gallons of fuel that had spilled from a ruptured tank on the tractor-trailer. The accident caused serious delays and stranded thousands of motorists on I-95, I-295, and I-495 as crews worked to clear the accident.

One person sustained minor injuries and was transported to Christiana Hospital.
