Man Finds Military Ordnance While Harvesting Oysters In The Chesapeake Bay

Just after 5:00 on Thursday, January 30, 2020, firefighters from the Church Creek Volunteer Fire Company responded to the 2700 block of Hoopers Island Road in Church Creek, Dorchester County, Maryland.

Officials said that the owner at that location discovered military ordnance while commercially harvesting oysters in the Chesapeake Bay. The man contacted the authorities after arriving at his home.

Maryland’s Office of the State Fire Marshal Bomb Squad personnel responded to the scene and determined that the military ordnance was a military marine flare.  The flare was subsequently disposed of.
