Troopers: Woman Seriously Injured By Lumber Wielding Assailant

Lewes- The Delaware State Police have arrested 50-year-old Donald L. Maull for assault and related charges, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said on January 1, 2020, at approximately 11:50 a.m., Troopers responded to the Beebe Medical Center in reference to an assault complaint.

Upon arrival, Troopers met with a 32-year-old female who advised that she was assaulted by Donald L. Maull earlier that morning. Further investigation revealed that the female victim responded to Maull’s residence in the 17000 block of Ward Avenue in Lewes, to retrieve belongings as she recently moved out. The victim advised she engaged in an argument with Maull when he proceeded to strike her in the back of her head with a piece of lumber, said Jaffe. The victim was able to seek assistance from a nearby neighbor and received a private transport to the hospital. The victim sustained a serious head injury.

Troopers located Maull later that day traveling as a passenger in a vehicle on Beaver Dam Road. Maull was taken into custody and found in possession of approximately 0.001 grams of crack cocaine and drug paraphernalia, according to Jaffe.

Maull was transported back to Troop 7 where he was charged with the following:

Possession of a Deadly Weapon During the Commission of a Felony
Assault Second Degree
Aggravated Menacing

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Maull was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $76,400 secured bond.
