Just In: Photos From Accident That Closed I-95 In Newark

Newark – Rescue crews are racing to I-95 SN just south of the southern toll plaza for reports of a motor vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer.

Initial reports from the scene indicate that at least two people are seriously injured. One patient is reportedly trapped.

Crews have closed the southbound lanes of I-95.

Crews are reporting fuel across the roadway and have requested HAZMAT Teams.

Command asking for Trooper 4’s ETA. Two minutes out.

Update: Two patients en route to the trauma center, one by air. Both are in very serious condition.

Update: Multiple vehicles involved.

DelDOT is pushing all traffic onto Route 896 SB towards Route 40.

Statement from the Delaware State Police:

“The Delaware State Police are on scene of a crash involving a tractor-trailer that occurred at approximately 9:48 a.m., Monday, February 3, 2020, on I-95 southbound, south of the toll plaza, in the area of the Otts Chapel Rd. overpass. As a result of the crash I-95 southbound is closed, and is expected to be closed for an extended period of time.”
