Troopers Release Details Of Fatal Pedestrian Crash, Struck By Two Vehicles

Millsboro – The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred earlier this morning, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.

Jaffe said the incident occurred on February 13, 2020, at approximately 6:41 a.m., when a 2004 Hyundai Sonata was traveling eastbound on John J. Williams Highway (SR 24) just west of Rosedale Road. A 2011 Hyundai Tucson was also traveling eastbound on John J. Williams Highway behind the Sonata. A pedestrian, on foot was attempting to cross John J. Williams Highway directly in the path of the Sonata. The operator of the Sonata was unable to avoid the pedestrian, striking her within the eastbound lane of John J. Williams Highway. The operator of the Tucson was also unable to avoid striking the pedestrian. Both operators of the motor vehicles remained at the scene.

The pedestrian, a 47-year-old female of Millsboro, DE was not equipped with a light or reflective clothing, according to jaffe. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her name is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

The operator of the Sonata, a 59-year-old female of Millsboro, DE was properly restrained and not injured.

The operator of the Tucson, a 40-year-old female of Seaford, DE was also properly restrained and not injured.

John J. Williams Highway in the area of Rosedale Road was closed for approximately 3 hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
