Exclusive Audio: Shots Fired By Suspect, Trooper Leads To Barricaded Incident Near Middletown

Middletown – The Delaware State Police have arrested 42-year-old Richard P. Money 2nd of Middletown in connection with a shooting incident, which led to him barricading himself at his residence on Tuesday morning, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Michael Austin.

Austin said the incident began at approximately 9:50 p.m., Monday, March 16, 2020, when Troopers from Troop 9 were dispatched to a residence located in the 100 block of Blackbird-Greenspring Road near Smyrna, in reference to a shots fired incident. Upon arrival, Troopers learned that Money, who had already fled the area, had fired multiple rounds at the residence, said Austin. At the time of the shooting, the residence was occupied by subjects who were known to Money. None of the occupants sustained injuries as a result of the incident.

Troopers attempted to locate Money throughout the night and just after 6:00 a.m., they located him at his residence in the 1900 block of Middleneck Rd., Middletown. Money was observed brandishing a firearm, which resulted in a Trooper discharging his divisionally issued firearm one time. Money, who was not struck by the round then barricaded himself on the property.

Communication was successfully established with Money and at approximately 10:54 a.m., he surrendered and was taken into custody without further incident.

Money was transported to Troop 2 where he was charged with the following:

Possession of a Deadly Weapon during the Commission of a Felony
Reckless Endangering 1st Degree (3 counts)
Criminal Mischief (2 counts)
Endangering the Welfare of a Child
Shooting Across a Roadway
Money was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court #2 and then committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $295,000.00 cash bail.

In addition to DSP the following agencies also provided assistance and resources to the operation: New Castle County Police Department, Middletown Police Department, New Castle County EMS, Middletown Fire Company and DELDOT.

 

Breaking Report

Middletown – At around 10:00 last evening Delaware State Police responded to a home on Blackbird Greenspring Road for reports of shots fired.

Initial reports are that several rounds were fired into the home and the suspect fled the scene.

As a result of that incident, Troopers responded to a home on Middle Neck Road in Middletown.

The Delaware State Police said they are currently operating at a residence located in the 1900 block of Middleneck Road, in reference to an armed subject, that barricaded himself on the property this morning.

Affected residences in the adjacent area have been evacuated as a precautionary measure. As a result of the ongoing operation there are the following road closures:

Middleneck Rd. between Warwick Rd. (DE 299) and Old Telegraph Rd.
Warwick Rd. (DE 299) between Rt. 301 (Exit 2) and the Maryland line.
Further details regarding the incident will be released as they become available.

Additional details will be released one the situation has been brought under control.
