Accident Closes I-495 Saturday Night, One In Critical Condition

At approximately 11:30 Saturday evening, New Castle County Paramedics along with crews from the Brandywine Hundred and Claymont Fire Companies were dispatched to the area of Interstate 495 and Fox Point State Park for a motor vehicle crash, according to Paramedic Corporal Yvonne Russell.

Russell said upon arrival, New Castle County Paramedics found one patient, an approximately 40-year-old-male, suffering from injuries to his face, chest, and abdomen. The patient was treated on scene and transported to Christiana Hospital via Claymont Fire Company ambulance accompanied by New Castle County Paramedics. The patient was in critical condition at the time of transport.

Last evening First State Update reported that radio traffic indicated that a pedestrian was struck after exiting a vehicle or possibly being ejected from the vehicle. Officials did not confirm those details.

Trooper 4 responding to the scene was recalled by Claymont Command.

DelDOT closed I-495 NB at Edgemoor Road while Troopers investigated.
