Officials said at approximately 12:03 a.m., this morning, Wilmington Police located a suspicious vehicle that was running and parked, partially on the curb, at 11th and Walnut Streets.

As officers approached the vehicle to assess the situation and to speak with the driver,  a Wilmington Police officer discharged their department-issued firearm, striking the suspect, officials said Sunday.

Officers took the 21-year-old man into custody and provided first aid prior to the arrival of paramedics. He was then transported to the hospital in stable condition. Investigators said that a firearm was recovered from the suspect and that charges are pending. The police officer was not injured.

Officials said the incident is under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division, the Office of Professional Standards, and the Delaware Department of Justice.
