Bethany Comic And Gaming Store Plans To Use Their Noodles As They Reopen

Although currently open by appointment only, Comics and Gaming is looking forward to being open June 1

This family-friendly store in Bethany Beach is filled with a variety of comics, graphic novels, board games, and collectibles. Both vintage and new items!

The store will be following CDC guidelines, their occupancy will be at 30% which allows 13 people, however, they will keep the limit at 10 to allow for employees, according to owner Mandy Chillemi.

They are asking that masks be worn, they will have hand sanitizer available, ask customers to keep a distance, and clean the register area between customers.

They are a family-owned business and their kids are a huge part of it, so to make distancing fun, we made Star Wars lightsabers out of pool noodles to help everyone measure their distance.

It’s mostly to keep things lighthearted, there will also be 6 ft. markers on the floor. This shut down has been hard. Having to close right as we were ready to start ramping up for the season was very unfortunate. The SBA loans, as many know, ran out quick and we have yet to hear anything about a stimulus check. So many people said “Just get a loan, the government is giving money to small business owners.” And they didn’t understand.

Chillemi said I’m happy to be opening in this limited capacity and doing anything to try to catch up, but if the short term rental ban and out of state quarantine is not lifted soon, many beach business face going under. Bethany Beach itself has some added challenges with parking being limited even more. We don’t expect anything close to a typical tourist season, but we do want a fair chance at recovery going forward.
