Happening Now: Rescue Underway At Turkey Point Lighthouse In North East

North East, Maryland – Cecil County rescue crews have responded to the Turkey Point Lighthouse and are currently searching for an injured person. A caller, who is with the patient, is on the phone with Cecil County 911 trying to direct medics into the scene. Crews are having trouble locating the patient. It is not clear what the injury is at this time.

Officers with Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources and North East firefighters are launching boats from nearby Rouge’s Harbor.

Maryland State Police Helicopter Troop 6  is en route to the scene and is expected to land at the harbor for medivac transport.

Update: 12:05 Hiker found – Command advising that the patient will need to be extricated by boat.

Update: 12:09 Crews cannot make access to the patient due to the unfriendly dog that is with the patient. A hiker has an injury to a lower extremity.

Update: 12:12 Trooper 6 is landing in the parking lot at rouge’s Harbor Marina nearby.

Update: 12:13 Crews loading the patient into a stokes basket. The patient will be taken to nearby beach fr transport to the harbor. Ambulance redirected to the harbor.

Update: 12:27 Initial dispatch indicated that the hiker fell. It’s not clear if they fell off the steep cliffs.

Update: 12:32 Rescue boat arrival at harbor.

Update: 12:43 Patient en route to the helicopter. Will likely be transported to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.

Update: 12:51 Trooper 6 has lifted off and is headed to Baltimore.
