Body Found Floating In The River Near Delaware City

Delaware City – Troopers are currently conducting a death investigation after a body was discovered floating in the Delaware River on Tuesday afternoon, according to Public Information Officer, Senior Corporal Heather Pepper.

Pepper said at approximately 2:27 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17, 2020, troopers responded to Bayview Beach, Delaware City, for a body floating in the area of the rocks of the Delaware River between S. New Road and the historic lighthouse.

The adult male was removed from the scene and turned over to the Delaware Division of Forensic Science to confirm the deceased’s identity and perform an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.

On Monday afternoon at around 4:15 rescue crews from the Delaware City, Minquas, Townsend, Port Penn, and Goodwill Fire Companies, along with DNREC Marine Units were dispatched to the Delaware River in the area of the C & D Canel for reports of watercraft in distress.

In that incident, two people were rescued and one person was reported to be in the water after the vessel went under.

Pepper did not say if the discovery of the body is related to Monday’s incident.
