Just In: Crews Search Delaware River For Overturned Kayak

Delaware City – Just before 8:30 this morning rescue crews from the Delaware City, Port Penn, and Goodwill Fire Companies along with a  DNREC Marine unit responded to the Delaware River in the area of Pea Patch Island (Fort Delaware) for reports of an overturned kayak.

Shortly after responding, crews learned that a kayak was located, picked up, and on a dredge boat in the river. No operator was located. It’s not clear if anyone was reported missing or if the kayak just got loose.

The U.S. Coast Guard, already on scene,  had been searching the area for more than an hour before the search was called off at around 9:20 Saturday morning.

Delaware State Police Avaiton’s Trooper 4 also assisted in the search.
