16-Year-Old Charged In July 12th Shooting Of Teen

A Wilmington Police investigation has resulted in the arrest of a 16-year-old male in connection with a July 12 shooting incident.

On July 12 at approximately 8:52 p.m. police were dispatched to the 800 block of West 23rd Street.  Responding officers located a 17-year-old male gunshot victim who was transported to the hospital and was listed in stable condition.

The case was assigned to Detective Joseph Wicks of the Criminal Investigations Division.  Through the course of his investigation, Detective Wicks identified a 16-year-old male as a suspect.  An arrest warrant was secured for the suspect, who was taken into custody on July 16.

The juvenile male has been charged with the following offenses:

  • Assault (First Degree)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Discharge of a Firearm on a Street

He was arraigned in the New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $70,000 cash-only bail.
