County Police Confirm Saturday Shooting, Victim In Critical, One In Custody

Yesterday, July 18, 2020, at approximately 09:20 A.M. Officers from New Castle County Division of Police were dispatched to the unit block of Court Drive, in the community of Greenview at Chestnut Run, for a report of a shooting that had just occurred.

The initial investigation revealed that a Red Honda Accord was involved in the shooting and had fled the scene prior to police arrival. Elsmere Police Department spotted the suspect vehicle in the area of Watson Ave, and Ogle Ave and attempted to stop the driver. The driver of the suspect vehicle refused to stop and fled from the officers. The chase continued to the area of Rodman Road where 34-year-old Desidel Juarez was taken into custody after an altercation with the arresting officers, police said Sunday.

Although initial reports from the scene indicated that the victim may have driven themselves to the hospital, police said the victim of the shooting was taken to an area hospital and at the time of this press release has been listed in critical condition.

Desidel Juarez was charged with the following; one count of Felony Assault in the 1st degree, two counts of Reckless Endangering in the 1st degree, one count of Felony Assault in the 2nd degree on a Law Enforcement Officer, one count of Felony Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Felony, one count of Felony Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon, one count of Felony Disregarding a Police Signal, one count of Felony Resisting Arrest with Force, one count of misdemeanor Hindering Prosecution, one count of misdemeanor Possession of a Controlled Substance.
